CJ I have no doubt your hubby meets the criteria for a device and the top of the line one at that. The SLP that evaluated my Dad only saw him for 1 visit. She only brought the Dynavox. I thought she should have given him a choice but she assured me the Dynavox was the best. Dad was not tech capable like your hubby and probably would have just been overwhelmed with more than one choice. She called me for a couple of other questions and then submitted her paperwork. It was returned for lack of documentation in 1 area and she re-submitted. She expected it would take about 4 weeks, claiming ALS diagnosis was given a priority, however it took about 2 months.
You would think that given the distance you live and that he was able to use multiple devices that she would be able to cover the required documentation and that if she sent him home with 2 devices, she would be prepared either way. As you mentioned she is probably use to kids and not experienced with pALS. Unfortunately I find that not enough health care workers have experience with ALS outside of the clinics themselves. Hopefully she will learn from the feedback from you and be better prepared for the next person. It is unfortunate however that you have to educate her when she is the professional. I hope this works out in a way that is least taxing on your hubby. I like the webcam idea if needed.
Oh and in regards to the buttons..... you can upload pics or whatever to use as buttons and I believe if programmed, it could dim the lights...
