Hi all, I am looking for a little advice/guidance. This is my second post and had planned on making it my last, thanking everybody for their time and wishing everybody well. But.....

A quick recap of my story. I was in the hospital with rhabdomylosis and an elevated cpk level. I was also having severe muscle twitching in my right quad. Googled twitching, found this site, and freaked out. While i was being treated in the hospital I was seen by a neuro at my overwhelming insistence. In the hospital the neuro did a baic exam i guess (Rheumatologist pull, push, used the hammer for reflexes, scrapped the bottom of my foot) and said all was fine. She said I could see her in her office and she would do and emg. She did the emg and said I had nothing to worry about.

I should mention that i had been feeling very fatigued and weak after doing things I have been doing with no problem (walking up a few flights of stairs, picking my kids up, etc). Anyway, like a good little solider I start making appointments with rheumatologist, muscle specialist, etc. We had a big storm here in NY and gas rationing and all that good stuff. To make a long story short, I went to another neuro just ro get a complete emg so the rhuemy has a full picture. This neuro says I have weakness in my left calf. I dont feel weak though. I was promptly scheduled to 10the sessions of physical therapy which is in the same building as the neuro making me suspicious. I'm now freaked out about this second neuros findings. Should I get a third emg so quickly to see what's up? Is there somebody recommended in the NYC/Long Island area? Any advice?

Firstly, I'd go to the physical therapy. If exercise fixes the weakness, you don't have to worry about ALS.

If you do decide to look for someone good, Dr Scott Mcwilliams out in Port Jeff at Sound Neurology is great. He is willing to treat symptomatically, dig into things, and have a real discussion with you, he doesn't just talk at you. If you're in the city that would be quite a trip by train, about two hours, but he might be worth it.

Thanks for the referal. I will travel to earths end to get some answers. I honestly do appreciate you taking the time to answer and naming a doc. I have had two conflicting EMGs in a short time and don't want to sound like a hypochodriatic. The only reason I even went for the second EMG was so I could have a full report for the Rheumy who seems to have a beat on my symptoms. It was just a curveball getting a conflicting EMG. I now the first EMG which came back clean was from a neuro with 8 years exp. The second came from a neuro with 35 years exp. The kicker was thhe fact that the second Neuro instantly recommended Physical Therapy (which my Rhuemy wants me to put off until after some blood work), and the PT is directly connected with her practiice. I guess it is just the cynic in me thinking it's a money scam. I hope this doctor McWilliams is in my plan. Anyway, thanks for the ear and for the help. It is appreciated more than you know.

Thanks,

Shaun
