I know they do not know what causes ALS. There are many different physiological complications to this disease. I am a cancer survivor and KNOW all of my friends(that are not deceased now,it was 18 years ago) attributed their diagnosis with a period of their life that was profoundly stressful. They all say cancer provided a sort of secondary gain in their life.

EXAMPLE: One friend had been trying to get pregnant for years and couldn't. She was fine, according to several specialists. She adored her husband so much and knew his ego would not handle the fact of possible sterility. He was very macho Italian and insisted he had no problems, refusing to look into the reason. She was emotionally distraught, was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer which is very rarely survived.

Problem was solved. She had her ovaries ablated by the chemotherapy(side effect) and now it really was her problem she could not conceive. She is alive and well today.
Secondary gain:she has her happy marriage, which was rapidly deteriorating
18 years ago. He never had to find out he had any babymaking problems.

There are many stories like this. My question is, does anyone think a MND could have a basis of stress or a psychological component? If so, can you give any examples. I have heard, not sure of the truth, of ALS remitting.......I am just curious.....Has anyone heard of a dirty EMG reading clean next check up? I know there are many reasons that could happen, but I mean in MND? searching for answers

The answers you seek are not available. Everyone thinks they can contribute their ALS to something that has happened in their life but the truth is - they don't know what causes it and there is no scientific data linking anything to ALS onset.

ALS sometimes has a plateau but it does not remiss. PLS on the other hand can.

The trouble with these kind of questions is they can contibute to the misinformation there is on the internet about ALS.

Sorry for putting a damper on your questions. Because of these reasons and concerns I am moving this thread.

I don't think so...in my humble opinion. There doesn't seem to be any constants in ALS. Might even be something we are born with. It is so mysterious! If they wanted to find the cause, before the cure....we might not ever find a cure. Only God knows. I pray that he helps us soon!

But if stress makes symptomology progress, maybe meditation, positive thinking, relaxation, massage therapy, reflexology, inversion, whole body vibration therapy(like the astronauts use to stop the atrophy from lack of gravity......multitudes of things could help. If the majority of people on this forum said that stress aggravated their symptoms.....we could draw some important conclusions. And eliminate some suffering.

The one thing we do know for sure is once you have ALS stress is a killer. Stress needs to be avoided at all costs. I don't think anyone will dispute that.

thumbs up joel yes we all need to avoid stress as much asd we can .it has been proven to make als worse
