Speech and Communication device advice needed

But there is no screen to show you what you are typing! I don't know about anyone else but I can type 40 mistakes a minute and if I cant see what I am typing it is easy for speech to come out garbled or spelled out, incorrect letters and all. Also, unless textspeak's pronunciation is perfect there is no way to show the other person what you are trying to say.

My netbook with NextUp talker is about $500 and allows me to talk, surf the net, send emails and is not much larger than textspeak and keyboard.
 
thats true there is no screen, but for some elderly like my parent- technology is scary, we had lots of laptops around but she wouldn't touch one. the ipad either, which I tried and the speaker was not loud enough to be heard- we simply needed an easy to use speech device and although typing mistakes are made- she is speaking to us for the first time in a long time out loud and she is very happy.

By the way the Textspeak can be preprogrammed
with phrases 24 I think, using the F keys that are often used, with one touch they are spoken. It also has a very long battery life. It works for us.
