VA Home Modifications - Garage as 2nd egress?

has anyone used the garage as a second exit for egress? The VA pamphlets say not possible

Just request a waiver.

But yes, my 2nd egress is my garage - going off the raised deck isn't quite feasible.

They wouldnt approve this for us unless we had the door widened. This meant cutting thru a load bearing wall. They wouldnt let us waive it. We did use the prosthetics ramps to leave the house as a second egress to a screen room

I have a 36" opening, I coould just flip the swing and make it

We have rams in front of the house and a vertical platform lift from the back deck to the ground for the second. Not using the laundry room was one of the few things they wouldn't wave for us, so we have a door in our master bathroom, which I now love. When he comes in with dirty muddy wheels I can bring him straight into the bathroom and shower and carefully rinse the tires before he hits the carpet (oh how I now hate carpet).
