My symptoms are getting in the way of my life

To begin with it even hurts to text because my hands r so weak and stiff. It was about a year ago when all of a sudden I was unable to sleep. Then that created major fatigue and few days after a nightmare. I kept waking up every minute from my sleep with major leg tremor, confusion, dizziness. This symptoms progressed and since then my life has turned upside down. My legs r so stiff and weak that I’m unable to walk.

Probiotics may be helpful with ALS

Natural substances that restore intestinal-bacteria balance may help in the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), according to a study funded by the international Ice Bucket Challenge.

Noting that changes in intestinal bacteria contribute to ALS, researchers said using probiotics could restore the balance.

Diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) more than eight years ago, East Garafraxa resident Al Pettit continues to defy the odds.

The prognosis from diagnosis to death for those with ALS is a mere handful of years - "80 per cent of our clients live two to five years," noted Kathryn Dunmore, manager of communications for ALS Ontario. Yet, Pettit, 68, is close to reaching nine, so what's his secret?

Minister of Veterans Affairs Announces Improved Support for Veterans with ALS

The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture), announced today that the Government of Canada has taken action to improve and speed up support for Veterans suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was joined by Pierre Poilievre, Member of Parliament for Nepean-Carleton, David Cameron, President and CEO of the ALS Society of Canada, and Veteran Mike Watson, who has led a courageous battle against ALS.

In an exciting race to the finish, Kinga Njilas has won Mike and Ike's Ante Up! contest - donating the $2,500 winnings, in cash and donated products, to the ALS Society of Canada for research into treatments and a cure for ALS.

Guelph resident Njilas, 25, has made it her mission to raise funds and awareness for ALS after learning of her mother's diagnosis with the disease four years ago. Even after her mother's passing in January of this year, Njilas continues her fight by remaining a loyal and courageous ambassador for ALS Canada.
