Hi there,

I am a 30 year old female from Ireland.

Last week when I was driving home I noticed twitching in my left leg just above my knee.

I then noticed I had all over twitching on my body, I have also suffered from cramps in my calves on and off that would wake me from sleep.

I was in work one day last week and I felt super light headed and my legs felt weak, I felt very hot so I went to sit down. I had numbness, tingling and pain in my right leg (I know this is sensory). I went to my doctor who sent me in to the hospital to get checked out because I was shaking everywhere and there was ketones in my urine.

In the hospital they preformed the basic tests on my strength and walk etc. they are going to do an MRI on my cervical spine.

This is when things get scary for me, when I came home from hospital that day I could feel my right arm going dead, I jumped up because I thought I was having a stroke, since then my upper arm has been burning and I find it hard to lift my phone. I have not failed but I am quite shaky.

The twitches are all over and I don’t know if I can feel them in my tongue or am I imaging it. The top of my tongue feels like it’s burning.

I haven’t eaten much in two days and I’ve been pretty much bed bound with fear over the weakness in my arm and hand and the over all twitches. Also my right index finger feels stiff.

Do you think I should push for an EMG?

Can the disease progress that fast?

Thanks,
Hannah

Hi Hannah-

Please make sure to read here: Read Before Posting as it outlines why sensory issues (burning, "going dead", numbness, tingling) point towards some other issue. It sounds like you have something more systemic.

Your doctors will guide the direction of diagnostic testing. If you start pushing them to conduct tests that they feel are unneccessary then this creates an issue and will slow down discovery.

Take care
