I am sorry I am having to post this but would really appreciate some advice over the unusual symptoms that ive had since feb of this year, I’ve read the stickies and I appreciate that this is not a forum for getting advice and that the best advice is from a neurologist but don’t know what else to do…

I’m a 46 female …Started feb with insomnia
Tried to get exercising for sleep, had hot flushes so felt start of peri menopausal.

Then beginning of May Started with thigh muscle pulsing, not sure if this was from something as two days before carried some bricks or just started. I started googling everything I could about those particular symptoms and that’s what started my anxieties as pulsing muscle came up as mnd.

Then noticed big toe on right foot was sharp pain but had a different sensation to left big toe, like slightly numb.

Then not sleeping, burning up at night.

Then had jerk of right arm at night which woke me up

Then muscle twitching started all over,
put it down to no sleep as first felt on a night when wasn’t sleeping but has continued and is widespread like a fluttering, again googled and MND comes up, can see sometimes other times like a fluttering sensation

Then odd altered sensations on left calf and right calf, would say numb in parts but not sure, would go stiff at knee.

Then had a muscle cramp spasm that made me jump out of bed, right thigh felt like it linked to right big toe like a nerve pain

Muscle twitching in neck, back, groin, calf’s, hands, thighs, feet.

Tongue felt like it has a burnt feeling at tip, and taste sensations different, gag reflex feels more apparent too..

Right hand not feel right, stiff fingers and achy feeling but also left has same now

Pins and needles in both hands but now predominantly everything is right side.. feel shaky all the time.

Feel like I’m looking at right leg and there is a dint in it so not sure if I’m losing muscle but that’s the obsession I’m in..

Feel like each day I’ll wake up and can’t feel my leg or hand

Sleep is completely rubbish it’s like a switch has been turned off if I don’t do any exercise I’m basically up all night. Going to the toilet alot.

Can’t get passed this feeling of I’m not right

So this week Been to see neurologist who thinks it’s health anxiety, however has said a nerve muscle test is needed to check..
But today started with feeling that food is going down and getting stuck..

Not sure what’s going on but very scared and worried.. any advice is greatly received

Hi there-

I have moved your post to the correct subforum. I will ask you to re-read the Read Before Posting link, as there are some posting rules there, as well it outlines exactly why your symptoms point away from MND/ALS.

You do list a whole variety of symptoms that have nothing to do with ALS- you have a whole variety of sensory issues and this just isn't how ALS starts. Not sure what the trouble might be, but this would be something you will have to work out with your doctors. It must be very worrying for you, but thankfully you can eliminate this forum as a place you would need to be searching on. I hope that's a relief for you and that you will be able to be reassured with a more careful read of the Read Before Posting again.

Please take care

Thank you for your response, yes very worrying and not sure what is going on but I’ll read the before posting post. Thank you again.

Sorry to post again but quick update on symptoms, the experience of food getting stuck when swallowing is now all the time after meals, this seems to be every time I eat. My tongue has felt sore at the tip like it’s burnt sensation but haven’t burnt it but feel like tongue is not right, feels like I have to work harder when speaking, feel like my tongue is being lazy, also got scalloped tongue and not seen This before..Now very worried this is bulbar onset.. any advice on bulbar symptoms as now concerned that this is spiralling..

You stated you have seen a neuro and they said a “ nerve muscle test” ( emg/ ncs?) is needed to confirm their dx of anxiety. Is this scheduled? When? Also perhaps you could ask your gp for an ent consult?

It doesn’t sound like bulbar onset to me but objective tests should give you your answers and those can only happen through your doctors

Yes seen a neuro and he said he was 99% certain not neuromuscular or MND but could never confirm 100%, (no dr can confirm 100% these days and I get that). , he said I could have an emg test but that would more than likely be for my reassurance knowing I suffer with health anxiety.. I am waiting to be contacted for appointment for this.

the thing is now I’ve got this lump sensation in back of throat and seems to be after eating food.. like food is getting stuck at base of neck.. I did mention it to the neuro but he didn’t seem fazed by it. But at that point it was more like the lump in back of throat which I’ve had before, now this week seems to be all the time after eating food it feels like some bit of food is stuck at base of neck.

I’ve asked if anyone notices anything with my speech and they don’t..
I’m sorry to post on this forum and I appreciate and thank you for your response and your right I need to have the testing done to get an objective view.

Hello-

Look up "globus sensation" and you will find it familiar.

It might be time to take a break from this forum and from trying to fit your experience into something related to ALS. Once you've seen a specialist and have something new to report, as it relates to a clinical exam or actual test result, might be a better time to post again.

Please take care.
