Researchers at the University of Copenhagen have transplanted healthy human glial cells into the brains of mice into which they had previously injected unhealthy HUMAN brain cells. The healthy cells eradicated the unhealthy cells. They expect to begin clinical trials in other diseases in the near future, but ultimately hope this approach could apply to ALS. <corrected misstatement of the report - mod>

Looks promising. Seems like there are (currently) a number of promising drugs in the trial pipeline as well as promising early stage lab studies such as this. One wonders how long it might take for these (the ones that prove out) to become available to patients.
