Storing and pouring PEG food...

So, the quest continues for a balanced, cost effective skeleton formula that is easy to make. Before I go on to this though, I need to add a bit of a follow up to the blog post on equipment for making blenderized food for the PEG tube. Not only did I have problems with one of the two Zyliss Shake and Go tumblers (lid started leaking within a week) But, the 'Nalgene On The Fly Water Bottle' had its own set of issues. I could not get the flip cap (on two of the three I bought) to close securely. So, I then tried glass bottles. They seem to be great—other than the fact that they're heavy. Most of my weakness is proximal instead of distal, therefore its not a big problem at this time. They have a narrow enough opening to where pouring into the syringe is easy enough too. The best price I found for the bottles was on Amazon. eBay had them for almost twice the price. They fit nicely on the door of fridge. They are safe for the microwave (lids removed of course). The brand is Aquasana, and they hold 18 oz. I will add some photos at the end of this post. If you try them, keep the packing cardboard divider for use in the fridge, it keeps bottles from sliding and clinking together. If you look closely at photo, you can see what I mean, its a nice heavy duty (cardboard lol) 'cup tray'. I also found that having a smaller in diameter strainer in addition to the 8' made things easier. I had a small strainer on hand, but it had a double mesh which is too fine. The smallest in diameter single mesh strainer that I could find online is about 4.5' It will sit mostly down into a 2 cup measuring cup, and would work great with a 4 cup one. (my 4 cup measuring cup met with an untimely end this past summer when I was using it for an outdoors project.) So much equipment! It takes up space in my not so large kitchen :( Still no regrets over cancelling canned formula delivery though. Homemade food agrees with me much better.
