Robbed of Speech and power to eat
It gets truly incredibly difficult to eat
To chew and even simply to swallow
It makes your mouth seem as if it’s false
Much like a hole that’s truly hollow
You have to take care what you now eat
It easily goes the wrong way and can choke
Yes it seems that this awful deadly disease
Is set out to indeed simply purely provoke
It also robs you of the power of speech
Leaves you like you’re stupid and dumb
You cannot even answer a telephone
It’ll make you afraid, feeling quite numb
In time you’ll not be able to raise an arm
Let alone ever walk never mind lift a leg
And with no way for you to eat or drink
For life’s rapid end you’ll most likely beg
They may have to feed you through a tube
Into your stomach to give you some strength
But this will really not help you at all
Not even to stand let alone walk a length
You’ll need a hoist to get you to bed
Carers to watch you through the night
Your entire life absolutely stops totally
And literally nothing ever again goes right
You can’t sign your name let alone write
Yes Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, deadly it seems
Takes away your literal every nerve end
A living nightmare, haunting even your dreams
