Life and Death and Terminal Illness (Poem)

Life and Death and Terminal Illness There is someone in the world who is laying Just as there are people for them praying There is someone in the world that is dying Yet again there are people for them crying There are people like me sitting here sighing Who are fed up of life, fed up of simply trying People severely disabled from crippling disease Which has taken their life, as all of their ease? We assume we’re an educated people it seems Yet there are billions who still only have dreams We assume we are clever, of this I’m quite sure Yet for what I have got, man still has no cure No cure for my illness partner my children too Without me my worry is what they will do They’ll get on with life, as yes life ever goes on Just as sure as the sun in the sky is daily shone But why go through this if man truly is so clever Man is still struggling in never ending endeavour As old as man is he is not yet the least bit wise Or he would have a cure just as I here surmise There would not be so many folk all dying today Cursing and all sick of life just as I here now relay Motor Neurone Disease remember its name well It is a disease that will really seem as if from hell It will leave you a cabbage and unable to talk Surely in time you’ll be unable to stand or walk You’ll not be able to eat, let alone to swallow And there is a great deal more that will follow For it will close up your every single nerve end On numerous others you will find you depend You’ll sleep in a hospital bed unable to breathe Likely need ventilation to help you or relieve You’ll sleep in a hospital bed, get in with a hoist In time you will find life as painful as I’ve voiced There are many incurable diseases in the world But man would rather fight see his anger unfurled Man globally would rather spend cash on war Bombs weapons to kill man off forever more This is why many folk in the world still surmise As old as man is today, he is not in the least wise Pen name Christopher Robin Copyright Registration TXu 1-598-108
