Hand of God stuff

Last Wednesday we were looking forward to a lovely dinner with friends @ Morton's. Unfortunately we ended up at the hospital ER instead. Turns out that Marty's inability to breathe well was not the ALS impacting his diaphragm as the ALS dr thought. The ER dr started tests and wanted to do a ct scan of his chest to see what was going on. Martys ALS dr - by her own admission- tried to talk him out of it. Dr newsome persisted that he wanted to do it so the neuro gave in and said ok. They found 'massive & numerous blood clots in both lungs'. Drs are shocked that he is alive. So we both thi k the hand of God was on him. On Thursday they found more clots in his legs. He is on blood thinners and will have to take them for the rest of his life. But there is some hope that his rapid decline was due to lack of oxygen in his blood rather than being all ALS related. If so, it means he's not going down as fast as previously thought. Amazing. He will be moved out of IMU tomorrow into a more regular room. Drs have ordered home evaluation to determine if he will come home or will have to go to a nursing home - he isn't going to like that if they say he should not go home. But we'll wait and see.
