OK .. so the communication sucked .. now the fitting of the chair. Took 3 staff members just to get him into the chair from the lift. The decision was made that they needed the overhead lift from bed next time. Now the ever shifting and discussion with Tony about how every little movement and adjustment worked or didn't work for him. He kept looking at me pleading for me to respond and when I did.. the frikcin PT wouldn't even look at me when I spoke for Tony. I knew immediately whether it was right or not.. we have been down this road with tony and he is VERY picky about his seating. Because if it's not right it will hurt him. I appreciated him so much when he indicated that he wanted his pillow behind his back .. and the PT got all huffy about it as it's the one from home .. tapered on one side.. and she started to lecture about how it was all bad... and so I took it from her and said' he likes it like this' and showed her ... she pulled Tony forward and I positioned the pillow at his back. and low on his hips. I have never got it right the first time but today .. THANK GOD .. it was just the right spot...
So I showed her that she wasn't the expert on Tony. I was! I hate that these people feel that we are stepping on their toes. They come into his room with attitudes instead of trying to make Tony comfortable. I knew it would take a couple of hours to get him positioned .. and she had no idea that he would be so demanding . .. rightly so ... it's his body ... she started looking at the clock and we hadn't even got his bell set up properly. So long story short after this PT left i spoke to the Head nurse and she told me that this woman didn't even attend the meeting about Tony yesterday and had no idea what deals had been made with Tony in regards to his two chairs. So basicly went into Tony's room with no idea of what had transpired yesterday at the main meeting with everyone. No wonder she got so testy .... I was telling her stuff she had no idea about. She didn't even know that you can only ask Tony one question at a time and only yes or no answers. She kept giving him choices... Tony can't respond to choices.. HE CAN'T SPEAK!!!! By the end of the three hours .. I was ready to wring her neck ( PT's ) and had to keep reminding everyone when Tony was actually talking with his word board.... The only fairly bright point of the day .. cause I have have find something positive is that Tony seemed to be comfortable in this chair and the staff ( nurses) were able to get all his concerns addressed. He can go pee from a sitting position and they know that he can't always work the bell with his knee on the ROHO cushion. So I was able to leave emotionally drained but confident that the nurses would take care of him.
