Many things have happened in the last few months that have been frustrating. The Palliative Care staff said that they didn't have time to do ROM exercises for Tony. I had no where to turn I know that it takes a long time to do personal care etc. but he is still in pain and he understands the importance of these exercises. I sent a letter to VIHA patient quailty care dept. stating that in their own mandate (which I found online) for Palliative ALS patients that exercise is important. I got a call within two days of sending the email. The Acting Manager of the Pallaitive unit ( which they didn't have before) is having a meeting with the rehab dept to see what they could arrange to help Tony. I worded the letter stating that his pain management should not just be drugs and that maybe another dept could be utilized so I have my fingers crossed that they can find something for him in the 'budget' .
I brought my guitar into the hospital today and played and sang for over an hour. Not bad for someone who hasn't played or sang for years. He enjoyed it very much as did I. Wednesday is our Hero's night so no fooling around with musical instruments.
