Hospice of the Upstate is a US-based hospice and palliative care organization located in Anderson, SC.
A community-based, not-for-profit hospice dedicated to providing compassionate, quality care for the terminally ill patients; our goal is to help patients live their last days in the greatest measure of comfort and dignity. Founded in 1988, we serve the following South Carolina counties: Greenville, Abbeville, Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens. Hospice provides nursing care, medications, hospital beds, supplies, oxygen, via our nurses and medical staff. Social workers provide counseling, assistance with financial matters, funeral arrangements, etc. Home health aides provide help with food preparation, bathing, etc., at the patients’ home. The criterion for admission to hospice care is diagnosis by a physician that a person has not more than 6 months left to live. Anyone can make a referral to Hospice of the Upstate by calling 1-800 261-8636. All patients who meet the criteria are admitted regardless of age, race, religion, sex, ability to pay, or type of illness. Most patients are over 65 and covered by Medicare. 80% of our patients are cared for in their own home. However, since 1998, our 27 room inpatient facility provides a place for those who may be in need of acute care with round the clock nursing care and access to our Medical Director.
