When medical science can add no more days to life, Big Bend Hospice adds more life to each day.Big Bend Hospice is a private non-profit organization which has served patients with a life limiting illness and their families in the eight counties of the Big Bend since 1983. To help assure that life for each of our patients is fulfilling and satisfying right up to the last moment, we provide physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical care specifically tailored for each family. Together with the patients own physician, the Hospice team of nurses, family support counselors, home health aides, music therapists, chaplains, and volunteers provide expert pain and symptom control. Big Bend Hospice delivers care in the patients own home, nursing home, assisted living facility, or hospital. Our Hospice House provides care for patients with acute medical needs which require 24 hour medical supervision. Big Bend Hospice remains with each family for up to a year following the death of their loved one to provide support through the grieving process. All of our grief support programs are available to anyone in the community regardless of whether they have used Hospice services. Hospice services are covered by Medicare and Medicaid under a special benefits section. Most commercial insurance and HMO’s also have hospice benefits. There are specialized grief support programs for adults, children, and teens. We are currently serving over 300 families each day. In over twenty years of caring for our neighbors, Big Bend Hospice has never turned anyone away because of inability to pay.
