CHSLD Chévalier de Lévis is a professional hospice and respite care facility located in Longueuil, Quebec.

Chilliwack Hospice Society is a community based Volunteer organization which accepts death as a part of life. We support individuals and families during the dying and grieving process.

Clients can self-refer or be referred by family friends community agencies health care providers social workers etc.

Chilliwack Hospice Society staff and volunteers provide programs and services to support people in our community who are dying and/or bereaved. All of our programs and services are non-denominational and free of charge.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

PALLIATIVE SERVICES

Cascade Hospice Visiting A team of hospice volunteers visit palliative patients at the Cascade Hospice Residence.

Hospital Visiting A team of hospice volunteers visit palliative patients at Chilliwack General Hospital.

One-to-One Support Hospice staff and trained volunteers provide one-to-one support to palliative patients at the Chilliwack Hospice Society Rotary Centre and/or in the setting that is home to the individual at the time of the visit. The setting may be in his/her home long term care facility and hospital or hospice residence.

Relaxation Program We offer relaxation sessions to our volunteers palliative or bereavement clients and /or their families on a weekly basis. We also offer on request relaxation sessions in our clients homes the hospital the Cascade Hospice Residence and at long term care facilities.

Vigil Services A team of trained volunteers provide vigil services to anyone during their last 72 hours of life. We offer this service in the hospital in people's homes in residential care facilities and at Cascade Hospice.

Respite Service Hospice volunteers will stay with a palliative patient while a family member must be away for a few hours.

BEREAVEMENT PROGRAMS

Bereavement Follow-Up A package containing information about bereavement services is mailed to individuals referred to us by the Chilliwack Hospice Palliative Care Team. These referrals are from the hospital hospice residence and the community.

First Step Grief Support Group An 8-week closed program that takes place weekly at the Chilliwack Hospice Societys Rotary Hospice Centre and is offered as necessary up to 3 times annually. The group is for individuals who have experienced a recent loss.

Second Step Grief Support Group Meets the 1st Friday of the month for a social luncheon and the 3rd Friday of the month for a meeting. This group is for people who are interested in attending social events and/or who wish to continue to support others and be supported in their grief.

Hearts Can Heal Childrens Grief Support Group This program is for children ages 6-12 who have experienced the loss of a family member or friend through death or other circumstances or who currently have a friend or family member dying.

Compassionate Hearts Teen Grief Support Group This program is for teens ages 13-19 who have experienced the loss of a family member or friend through death or other circumstances or who currently have a friend or family member dying.

One-to-One Support Hospice staff and trained volunteers provide one-to-one bereavement support to individuals at the Chilliwack Hospice Society Rotary Centre and/or in the setting that is home to the individual at the time of the visit. The setting may be in his/her home long term care facility and hospital or hospice residence.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING AND CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Hospice Volunteer Training This thirty-hour basic hospice volunteer training is a pre-requisite to becoming a Client Patient Volunteer. This core training takes place two times a year and is essential for those who wish to work directly with people who are dying and/or bereaved.

Continuing Education Program We provide ongoing education to our volunteers in areas of death dying and bereavement through in-house training programs such as facilitator vigil meal time companion training etc. community-based workshops and conferences.

Resource Library We have a large selection of books and videos related to topics around death dying and bereavement. Many of these resources can be borrowed by members of the Chilliwack community. Individuals can also watch videos at our Centre or read books that are kept at our Centre.

Speaking Presentations/Training Members of our staff and volunteers are available to speak to community groups and provide training around the philosophy of hospice care.
