ALS is tough, relentless, destructive. To breathe is to live. And our PALS struggle for each breath each day with respiratory failure.
The risen Christ appeared to his disciples.
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:21–22).
Jesus breathed on them and said receive. Jesus made the breath possible and it was his own breath, his own Spirit, the disciples received. The disciples needed only to be open to receive the breath of Jesus Christ.
We receive the Holy Spirit by simply receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior (John 3:5-16). When do we receive the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit becomes our permanent possession the moment we believe.
The Spirit of the Lord dwells within us.
The love of God lives within us.
PALS is not alone. PALS is loved.
