I have strict npo for about 6 weeks now. My swallow reflexes are too slow so drinking or sipping water is too risky, I choke on the smallest of sips. I am not dehydrated since my wife is ensuring I get at least two liters daily through the PEG tube feedings.

My salivation used to be rather significant, but not drooling. Now my parched mouth occurs in as much as 30 minutes following sipping and spitting those sips.

I suppose I am not alone. I am hoping someone has a workable solution.

Perhaps glycerin swabs?
Dunno.

I know others have recommended biotene spray. There is also a biotene moisturizing gel

Glycerin swabs can make it worse and mess with you teeth enamel

Since you can spit, I recommend Biotein mouth rinse. Or brush your teeth when ever you feel dry and have the chance. In the hospital we provide oral care every 4 hours for NPO patients. It reduces bacteria in the mouth. Which can help prevent aspiration pneumonia. Those glycerine swabs will make it worse.
