  • Hi, you would not have pain from ALS with good strength. Our pain is after atrophy, and we're weak--cannot button a button, or lift a foot--before atrophy. Pain can come when no muscle surrounds a hip or shoulder, and only tendons/ligaments hold it together. You still don't sound anything like ALS. Think about your anxiety, and do address that--if you haven't already.
I am glad you are feeling a bit better. FYI numbness is not an ALS symptom either, weakness is. That should make you feel even better! LOL. Please do get some medication, it really helps. God Bless! Joel
Burning sensations are not part of ALS. You are correct, it starts in one area, or limb like your hand, and slowly progresses and affects another. In my case it affected my left hand, then 6 to 9 months later it started affecting my right hand. From there it affected my diaphragm, then my left arm, then my right. Eventually it started affecting my legs but this took several years.
You're very welcome. If I were you, waiting for a neuro visit 8 months away, I'd see my local doctor and talk about anxiety medication. Stress causes so much trouble. Best wishes and God bless. Ann
Ann, thank you for reply. i have been struggling with this now since sept. numb hands which seem to get better get numb again. i had cramps but they are gone a little twitching and pain in arms and shouldes which seem to come and go and finally a burny tongue and a feeling of always saliva in mouth . i do have gerd as well as post nasal drip but im constantly thinking about it. From what everybody here and my family doctor have told me is its not likely als. I ne3ed to try and deal with the anxiety if that what it is before i go nuts. I had a sugar fast test today which was 4.9 which is good. Ann you are an amazing woman. thank you so much cause my fear factor is on extreme. my artms feel weak as i type this but its probably stress. god bless and thanks again.
Hi, you are not producing more saliva, it is a case where we can't swallow like we used to. Sorry you are stressed about what is happening. Try to relax and not let it bother you. I know that is easier said than done but it really helps if you can.
Saliva is a problem because folks cannot swallow. The discomfort you describe actually sounds nothing like ALS. This is in response to your post on the saliva thread. Looking below at your message just reinforces that your problem is not ALS... At the top of the "Do I Have ..." section are two sticky posts. Read them, Blue123rd, and you will see yourself that your symptoms don't fit at all. Best wishes, Ann
Hi, I have to wait 8 months to see an neurologist. My 2 hands and arms are the same, they pain when trying to do things and sometimes doing nothing at all.. Lifting is not an issue but both arms are painy at times and the tumbs and fingers. I get these occasional pricks still as well as occasional cramps in my feet along with a feeling of a lump in my throath. The main concern my hands and arms right now. Can u lose the use of your hands and arms within 3 weeks along with mouth issues?
