  • Hi Alma,
I saw where you peaked in the other day. Hope you are doing ok. I just returned home the other week from visiting my dad in Dallas. I hadn't seen him since right after Christmas. He is doing reasonably well for having ALS. His favorite thing to do is go to the movies. Take care, Kim
    Hi Alma,
Hope you are doing ok. I miss my dad who moved to Dallas into a assistant living facility. It is very close to my brother and sister's homes. Dad is staying steady right now. He is going to participate in in a clinical trial in a few weeks. Only 40 people in the country are able to get in it. My twins just turned 16 and will be getting their driver's license. Yikes. The car insurance is going to be high. Take care, Kim
    Hi Alma,
Thinking of you. I can't believe my kids will be back to school on the 20th. This summer has flown by and the weather has been so unpredictable. The twins will be sophomores and will be getting their driver's license next month. Our youngest son will be in the 4th grade. My dad just moved to a assistant living facility in Dallas. We tried all over to get him full-time care and couldn't find anybody. We even went through agencies. He is going to try this facility out first and if it doesn't work he will move in with my brother and they will remodel his bathroom and all for him. Hope you are doing ok. Take care, Kim
    Hi Alma,
Hope you are enjoying your summer. We have had alot of rain here in Central Illinois. My dad has a pool and I haven't been in it yet this summer since the weather hasn't cooperated. Our twins Matthew and Julie are just finishing driver's training. They will turn 16 in September. It makes me nervous thinking of them both driving.
My dad comes back home on Monday. He was in Dallas, Texas for a few days visiting my brother and sister who live there. Dad just got his first power wheelchair a few weeks ago through the VA. He is slowly getting used to driving it. Dad went to the ALS clinic in Dallas last week and they said his progression seems to have slowed done a little. His breathing test out good. But, with ALS we all know that could change in a heartbeat. He's still in good spirits which is good. His favorite thing to do is to watch movies on Netflix. He loves all kinds. Take care, Kim
    Hi Alma,
How are things going for you? My dad went for a check-up at a VA clinic the other day out of town. He said the treatment there that he recieved in Marion, IL was absolutely fantastic. He said they couldn't have been more professional and caring and gave him alot of good tips. Dad is far from being good but his progression seems to currently be at a standstill. Dad is getting out tonite to go to the park to watch our youngest son play his first baseball game of the season. The park is in the same subdivision where my son lives which makes it very convenient. Take care, Kim
    Hi Alma,
Hope you are doing okay. My sister and niece were just here the other week to visit my dad for a few days. They are from Dallas, Texas. My dad was thrilled to see their little shih tzu dog that they brought along. It was my dad's faithful companion when he first lived with them for several months after his diagnosis. Dad is doing so-so. It's hard to gauge with this disease. I'm anxious for the weather to get warmer so we can get him outside for some fresh air. I want to start doing some walking and try to lose a few 1lbs. Take care of yourself. You are in my prayers. Kim
    Alma,
I was so sorry to read about Bill's decline. It just seems so ironic that you are both named Bill and Alma like my grandparents and both of you have been married over 60 years. I am keeping you both in my prayers. Truly, wish there was something more I can do. Hugs to you Kim
Merry Christmas Alma and Bill! We had a nice time celebrating Christmas Eve at my house last night with my dad and aunt. Dad was thrilled to be able to come over to my house. My husband and a family friend was able to pick up dad's chair and carry him up a few steps into my house without any problems. Dad absolutely can't do steps anymore. We had a nice relaxing dinner and then my kids opened some gifts and visited with grandpa. It was a nice time for all. Kim
    Hi Alma,
Hope you and Bill are doing well. My dad is back staying at home. He is so thrilled to see my kids again. Dad is doing so-so I'd say. He's starting to lose the strength now in his arms and can only use a few fingers on each hand. It is frustrating him. My dad and my aunt will be coming over on Christmas Eve. I'm working Christmas day and then going to my in-laws. I'm going to stop by my dad's in the morning. Merry Christmas, Kim
Happy Thanksgivig Alma and Bill. I am working today at the hospital on the switchboard. But, I don't mind that much since we had a family get together last weekend on my husband's side for our youngest son's 9th birthday. My dad will be coming home either next Wednesday or Thursday to live at his home for at least awhile. We luckily have a family friend who is going to be his full-time caregiver. Hope things are going well for you. Hugs to you, Kim
    Hi Alma,
Hope all is well with you. My dad's arms are getting weaker and he can only use a few fingers on each hand. He is still able to swallow and eat on his own though. It just takes a long time and someone has to cut his food and he sometimes drop things. But, he has a good appetite and even though he's rail thin he gained 71bs. He uses a bi-pap just at night and at his check-up Friday they said his breathing has improved. He seems so far to be doing okay with the Ritulek. Dad is planning on coming home for at least awhile. He should be home in the next couple of weeks. It is going to kind of depend on his progress as to how long he stays. We have a family friend who has moved into dad's house here. He has agreed to be dad's full-time caretaker. Take care, Kim
