    Call system

Missy, About three months ago we had to make the transition from the wireless doorbell also. The IT Specialist from our state chapter sent down a modified pager with a "switch" attached to it. The switch is nothing more than a 1" clicker used with the headmouse applications for your computer...

    Bipap advice sought

Hi Dani! Do a google/yahoo imagine seach for the "mirage liberty mask" and see what you all think. I struggled for a couple of months with the bridge of Mom's nose, trying everything I could think of to prevent redness and skin breakdown with no luck. It got to the point to where the bone was...

What kind of Dr. put in your PEG?

Mom had her surgery scheduled through Gastroenterology, but as they were scoping her, they became hesitant of going any further. They found that she had an open space between her stomach and abdominal walls and feared that something could be floating around in there, and they didn't want to...

    tips thread

I love the idea of this thread Caroline! I may have an idea to help with the foot cramps. We had quite a time initially with Mom's foot drop while she was in bed. I tried several different things to help ease the pain but nothing worked, or was comfortable for her. After a lengthy stay in...

    Going to the ER

Same here Missy. We had a three week stay in the hospital that ended just last week, and Mom's potassium was very low. The saline drip combination seemed a lot easier and was the route we chose also.

    Mic-key peg is loose

Just an update... While waiting on the syringe to get her, Mom's tube fell out. I don't have time to get into all the complications...only that now she is worse off than she was. Tired, weak, no color, and is only able to take the bipap off for a couple of minutes at a time. She's been sick...

    Mic-key peg is loose

Thanks for the input Julie and Joe. After doing a little more research, I was shocked at how little our "provider" shared with us regarding the care and maintenance of the mic-key. Julie, you're right...they reference the mic-key button and peg tube as the same thing here. It's very...

    Mic-key peg is loose

Hi all, It's been a few weeks since I've been able to post, but here I am...needing advice from any PALS that have the mic-key style button peg. The other day, my father (who does most of the feedings), noticed Mom's peg tube was loose. Loose in the sense that the button itself was able to...

Doing OK, Charlotte...thanks for checking in on me/us! We do 15 minutes of stretching exercises first thing in the morning. I'll be on one side of the bed, my Dad on the other, and we work ourselves up from toes to shoulders. I do a neck massage in the afternoon and stretch out her toes/feet...

We are officially Facebook buddies!! You'll have to forgive my profile Iris, the majority of my friends are high school kids. During the summer months I take time off to go and work several different band camps across several different states over here. At the end of each week, all the kids...

Hi Charlotte! I haven't been able to get on here much the last week or so. Work has been a real "peach" lately...that seems to be the case around any of the holidays. Hope you were able to enjoy the weekend! The weather cooperated down here and a few of the leaves are starting to change...

    How do I Start?

Bill, I agree with everything Ann mentioned above, all of it is GREAT advice. In addition, take a look around the house to see just how handicap accessible it really is. Is a ramp needed to get in and out of the house? Are the doorways wide enough? Is a possible bathroom necessary? Our...

She told us yesterday that she doesn't want to be vented, and I respect that, but it's still hard to take in what that means. Now that she's using the bipap several more hours a day now, it's hard for me not to think about her progression and time frames of what's to come. I suppose everything...

Mom hasn't had any problems at night for the last 4-5 months really. We keep her tube feedings pretty much on a consistant schedule day to day, and by doing so can time the toileting needs fairly well. She has had a couple of coughing spells or has gotten cold and needed another blanket, but...
