I know it isn't an answer to your plight, but I know I will be going through the same thing at some point with my husband, as he will not accept any "mechanical assistance". Take care and know that your mother is likely choosing this out of a sense of pride and dignity, and although it is difficult for you to experience, it is the way she has chosen.
