That there is a natural death and grief process but that each individual or family will experience it differently. That individuals and families must receive care and support during illness death and into bereavement. That individuals and families have a right to dignity and privacy. That we must be sensitive to the cultural spiritual and linguistic needs of individuals and families. That our volunteers who provide palliative care must receive the training preparation and ongoing support to enable them to carry out their work. That palliative care is best provided by a team that includes the individual family physicians palliative care staff and volunteers and other health care professionals.
