I learned that this whole thing is easier to face as a calm person rather than the Type A person I was for most of my life.

You are truly right about (private parts becoming General parts.) lol
I live in a nursing home, so I know. Have ALS since 97. Have computer and I type with my head for two years. Keep your spirit up, don't let it get you down, that makes it worse! I try to make people laugh in turn they make me laugh!

I've learned that you can change a diaper and wipe and clean a poopy bum using only your feet.

I've also learned that my wife will no longer leave me at home alone after discovering that I made myself a cup of coffee with my feet by standing on the kitchen counter on one leg.

good that you can stand on a counter and make coffee but , if i were your wife i wouldnt leave you alone either lol

change a poopy diaper and wipe a dirty bum with your feet? are you for real? if so this just proves how much of a tough guy you are.
id like to see someone without those limitations come up with a good excuse why they cant change a diaper...
"oh it smells too much" blah blah. youre a hero.

Not to be too silly, but I'm assuming this isn't your own diaper or poopy bum? Impressive either way but ...

Barry,
Great comment! Thanks for the laugh:)

Not my diapers - yet- smart guy

It was my daughter's diaper - 9pm at night- 5 minutes after my caregiver had left and 2 hours before my wife would be home

I also have a whole system for picking up dog poop from our 3 beagles using my feet - I have special poop shoes

Richard any chance of getting a patent on those poop shoes? I have a vision of you with dust pans glued to the toes of your shoes.<LOL>

Rcharlton,
Advice on the poop pick up shoes please! I'm the only one that has ever done that duty here! I think the yard will look like a poop minefield someday when these floppy hands quit.

rm, your post also brought tears to my eyes. I lost my Dad to this disease over 2 years ago, and of course, it was one of the most intense experiences of my life. Why am I here? Just to be reminded, I guess, of the strength, resourcefulness, and humor of people with ALS/MND....God, I miss my dad. Wishing everyone all the best...

What I've learned is...

I need to learn to do things all different now.
That there is a new normal everyday
Being still opens me up to hearing the music around me
That the sun will rise no matter what I'm feeling
That the birds continue to sing praises to the Father every morning
When I push myself to hard I will throw up

Actually I make it sound a lot fancier than it is.

I got a poop scoop/pan with a long handle like the one in the photo. And I have dedicated poop shoes that I use to push/kick the poop into the pan or push the pan under the poop. Last year I could just lift the pan into a bucket but no more.

Now I have an extra large dust pan which I am testing out now.

RCharlton,
Thanks! I'm not there just yet, but I appreciate the heads up and pics for future needs. I just went out and did the duty! The sun is finally shining here for what seems like the 3rd time all month, so it wasn't such a bad job to do.

One more thing! I just noticed your Toronto location. My mom was born and raised up there and I have aunts and cousins spread all over Canada.
Thanks again, Mary

I hjave leaerned that children's sewatpamts are cheaper tham adult ones!
