Then I want one big as a PVC pipe. :D

The best advice I can offer, after having one for over 2 years, is don't decided you want a Mic-Key. They are nice in that the tube disconnects but they clog very easily. I had one briefly and had nothing but trouble. I got my wife to change it for a MIC Gastrostomy Feeding Tube (Ref 0100-20). We have not had a single problem since. It has a short, permanently attached, tube on it.

Oh my, looks kind of scary. Do you have a favorite webpage that talks about this?

Don't be concerned Al it is not scary at all. If you don't mind me asking, what is there about it that you find scary?

Here is a website that shows it better. I have one that is 20 French - which is the size.

Joel, I'm interested that you can just buy a tube online! I guess with a do-it-yourself tube and a hole punch, you could save a bundle of money and a trip to the hospital! :-)

Select Size : Adult 30Fr 7-10ml Balloon from your link. Is this the largest or smallest? Is the balloon sort of like the catheter balloon just used to hold it inside?
Are there any advantages or disadvantages to the largest size?
The scary thing was all those things sticking out that might get caught on something and pull. You know me I'm a wossie after having my catheter ripped out by my aid while bathing. OUCH! I had to go to the emergency room to get another put in s the space had swollen shut from the trauma.:shock:
Thanks for the link. It has a lot of good information.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Phil,

Hope you are recovering as best you can! Hope you can enjoy your weekend!

Al, I use a 20Fr and have never had a problem with it clogging up. Yes, a 30 is bigger. But I have never heard of anyone using one that large. The first PEG they put in usually has a long tube on it and that can be a nuisance. Once it needs to be replaced the next one can be a variety of choices. If you are truly concerned about someone pulling it out a Mic-Key might be a choice for you, but as I have said before, I tried one and did not like it as it was always getting clogged. I have never had an issue with my present PEG, it has a short tube that never seems to be in the way. Also, you are correct, the balloon is to hold it in. When it is time to change it the balloon is deflated and it is pulled out, a new one is inserted and the balloon is inflated. No pain or discomfort.

Alright...heres the story....Went into the op room. They gave me a sedative through the IV tube. They waited a minute, and asked me if I feel anything. I said no...I didn't feel a thing! Waited another minute...the same...nothing! They went in anyway! Then the gaging began! I was totally coherent through the whole thing! I could easily feel them insert the scalpel. It felt like being stabbed with a knife. Apparently I am immune to what ever sedative they use. I dealt with it the best I could. It turns out that my stomach was too high into my ribs for the tube to be placed. Bummer! Even though I felt everything...it wasn't real painful, just extremely uncomfortable. They are going to find a different way to put it in. There are other options, but I have my mind set for a PEG. More to come later I guess!

Pretty brave of you Phil! No way I would let anybody cut me without a sedative! Hope they can figure it all out for you!

I've heard of that happening before in pALS. Did they give a reason as to why your stomach would be higher up than usual?

I would recomend him to eat, and drink as much as possible for a couple of weeks before. I wish I did.

I think something similar happened with Sharonca. Ouch!

Captain AL,
Your Nexium is available in a powder form that could be dissolved in a small amount of water, or added to a sauce.. Cookie
