Remember that morphine in tiny doses works best as a maintenance regime where you keep taking it regularly. Tiny doses just one here or there won't seem to do much at all and will give a false idea of what the med can really do to help.
You are so right - distraction reduces the level of anxiety over breathing, and suddenly breathing is just a little easier. Of course it isn't fantastic, but easier.
