Hello Laura, We used open back pants for Sis when she could no longer stand. They are quite easy to make, simply cut the back of pants out in an oval shape that allows use of toilet without pulling pants down. This works well for people who can stand or those who need the lift. If you leave the waist band intact, it makes a good "handle" to get position in chair right.
Make the oval as large as necessary. When sitting in the chair the pants look like normal pants and it sure makes toileting much easier. I used bias tape to finish the cut edge, the pants washed without raveling and no one was the wiser.
