Hey Lydia,Hi Laura,
My original differential included early onset Parkinson's and MND. My GP encouraged me to have a sleep study early in the hunt for a possible explanation for my symptoms. The sleep study revealed some minor issues, so then he encouraged me to do a trial period with a c-pap to see if the symptoms were relieved. The sleep doctor (pulmonary doc?) shared that he regularly sees patients that do a trial period with a c-pap as a means of ruling out sleep disorders as the culprit behind their physical problems. In my case, after the trial period of c-pap use, a sleep disorder was ruled out as a possible cause of my problems. So I suppose, technically, it helped narrow the list of possible reasons down. I still have no diagnosed beyond a differential list, though.

Thanks Alex..as I mentioned previously I feel less and less that my problems are due to ALS, I just don't fit the common progression...at this point I feel I am more likely to be suffering from anything but..I also know that many of the PALS here have been through similar situations and have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to getting a diagnosis and that is all I am hoping for at some point, to know what is causing my problems. I realize there are many people here that are like me and most likely do not have als but there search has brought them here in hopes of learning something. I thank everyone who has offered me such sound advice thus farhi laura . . Have just re read your initial post . . And i had exactly the same state of sleep to start with . . Constantly vivid dreams . . And never really feeling like you had got to deep sleep . . Quality of sleep is dependant on a few things but mostly how you breath. . . If it is slightly off then this is called sleep disorderd breathing. . . There are sooo many things that can cause this . -So please dont worry too much about als on the strength of this . . I wish you good luck and god bless . . Alex
