Well it all started about 8 months ago with aggressive twitching in my calves and feet. Was very worried so had EMG, fasciculations present but nothing else to report.

Tried to block it out for last 8 months, twitching persistent throughout and even spread to shoulder, stomach, thigh, nose, forehead. Always touching, some days worse than others.

I have been coping until 2 days ago. Left shoulder (which is twitching) is quite sore and is weak. When I try to lift my left arm it hurts a lot and I can fully raise it.

I am no worried that this is my first sign of weakness and the ALS fear is back.

I don't want to go to work or leave the house and am feeling depressed and scared.

Do I go for another EMG? What should I do? Twitching is all over and I feel that my muscles are looking smaller ie wasting away

Any help / advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

Hi, John.

Nothing that happens over the course of two days should be putting you into fears of a life ending illness. People get random cramps from sleeping wrong or what have you that make their shoulder or neck or knee sore and weak all the time. It is only your anxiety that can turn a normal occurence into a portent of ALS.

Go do whatever you do for a few days, take some over the counter inflammatories. If it lasts a few more days, ask your GP for help.

hey, your symptoms are like mine, exactly. mine even started 8 months ago. if you lower your shoulder from a raised position does the muscle relax in 'steps'? This is happening to me all over now, it started in my back muscles, now my neck does it and both my wrists. i can flex my hand up smoothly but when i go to lower it my whole forearm shakes. same thing with my neck and ankles. Had a clean EMG 4 months in, Nuero referred me to a movement disorder specialist that im going to see on the 20th. Also have constant Jaw tremor, always feels like my teeth are chattering. like you, i am very worried. Been drinking too much because of all this shit, which makes it worse the next day.

Hang in there pal,

Caliburn

Thanks for the comments

Shoulder is still very painful, even after getting a massage and taking anti - inflam.

I read that this is frozen shoulder and there is a link to ALS.

Twitching is very bad at the moment, around shoulder but also strong in my stomach and still crazy in feet and calves.

I am really fearing the worst and don't know what to do

Immobility causes frozen shoulder.

Immobility causes frozen shoulder.

So should I be worried?

Twitching spread from feet and calves to shoulders, butt, lower back, thigh and now the frozen shoulder

I do yoga at least once a week and have a massage weekly so it seems odd.

Also it just started hurting randomly at 5pm one day whilst I was sitting in a meeting.

Terrified at the moment :(

I think what momap means is that frozen shoulder is a consequence of immobility for PALS. So it's not something that leads into ALS, but a secondary side effect of immobility that could happen to anyone who was immobile for whatever reason.

In your case, if it is frozen shoulder, starting randomly with pain sounds much more like frozen shoulder as it's own condition, anyway. You should get it checked out, as if it is frozen shoulder you need physical therapy as soon as possible, it takes a really long time to heal on it own.
