Hello.
Since yesterday morning, I've been having this trobbing/twitch ing sensation inthe back of my thigh. It kind of feels like a pulse when I touch it. My whole thight doesn't move when it happens.
There is no weakness in the thigh that this is happening in. None that are noticeable anyway.
I'm trying not to over react here. I am notorious for being a huge hypochondriac( actually I am diagnosed wih health anxiety, although I'm not being treated for it at this moment).

I'm a 21 year old female. What are the odds that this is ALS?

Sorry for any typos. I'm written from my iPod and it's hard to type on it.

You are definately are way, way over reacting to feeling a twitch for the first time yesterday and looking on the internet for why. If you are that concerned you need to see a doctor. Good luck.

I forgot to mention that the twitching has been non stop.
I have also been having bad headaches for the past week or so. I went to the e.r and they did a ct scan and a spinal tap and both of those were normal.

Another g88gle victim, sorry but you have a twitch not ALS, have a great day.

Odds are about zero. Your body isn't fully grown--that happens at about age 25 actually. Exercise, walking and benign causes can cause the occasional twitching and even spasms.

Headaches can be caused by many things--including stressing over a possible health issue. If your CT was normal and your tap was normal--it's unlikely that you need to worry about other things like MS.

WEAKNESS is a sign of ALS--you're not having any weakness. You're too young for ALS, too. And, too old for childhood muscle disease. Quit worrying. If the headaches persist--see a migraine specialist.

Good luck

The twitching has not stopped. It seemed to be going away but it came back. I don't notice it while I
Standing. Only when I'm sitting and laying down. My whole leg doesn't move when it happens. Like I said it's in one very small area and kind of feels like a pulsing.

I'm starting to worry myself sick. What other things can cause twitching?
Is it possible that it's benign? I have a huge fear of doctors ( which is a part of my health anxiety ).

Your first sentence is more true than you know. Some people get ulcers when they are stressed. Other people twitch.

Not only possibly benign, but probably, if not almost certainly, benign. As long as you don't do something crazy and injure yourself because you scared yourself to death by reading a bunch of morbid stuff about a rare disease that there is no evidence that you have.

If you're hanging around here hoping that someone can convince you that you don't have ALS, you're wasting your time and we are wasting our time dealing with you. You talked yourself into your fears -- talk yourself out of them. Or get over your fear of doctors and start working toward a resolution of your health anxiety issues.

1 in 6 million.
Should I just post that on EVERYBODY'S thread if they are under the age of 30 and concerned?

You can post that on every thread by a person under 30, but I doubt it will do much good. It takes rational thought to apply probability to one's own situation, and rational thought is a rare commodity among the posters in this part of the forum.

1 in 6 million for under 30, Is this a real statistic? As I'm in the same boat as O.P except I DO infact have weakness.

What's the statistic for overall (any age)?

Terrified--if you want stats--type it into a search engine elsewhere. You're not going to believe anything anyone here tells you anyway.

Sooooo I get attacked for being "google" happy, but then when I ask for someone to post the information they are stating I get told to google. LOL can't win.

The stats are officially 1: 100,000 people. VERY low. And the vast majority of those are over 45--and of those, most are over 60

Edit--other stats say 2 : 100,000

50% of those are between 40-70

Average age of onset is 55

Youngest diagnosed case: 12 yo Oldest was 90+

since YESTERDAY? lol! i wouldnt be so worried. i am 24, been twitching since i was 22. the only reason i worry is because i have been twitching so long...... do yourself a favor, and dont google, drink a glass of wine and relax and stop thinking about it. als doesnt start with just a twitch as long as you dont have weakness your fine. enjoy life, you dont have als.
