I have read many entries here about sweating, my husband sweats like crazy, it always seems to be at its worst about 7 am and between 5 and 7pm. Is it the medications or is it ALS? He is about 2+ years into this disease and is taking a lot of meds including baclofen, gabapentin, morphine, flexim etc etc. Any ideas anyone?

Try tea of sage.

I can sure sympathize with your husband patgayle. When I was still working I was embarrassed by how much I was sweating and yes, it was early morning. I was using one paper towel after another to wipe my face and neck area off.
After a while I would just stop sweating and for me, I was okay for the rest of the day.
Since I've stopped working I still have bouts when I sweat like mad and nothing seems to help completely. I keep a regular face towel handy to swab up the excess.
Does your husband drink coffee or other hot beverages? I know that coffee for me, or maybe caffeine altogether, makes me sweat and I'm sure it contributes to the early morning sweats.
But if I drink a something cool, it seems to help with the sweating, although it doesn't eliminate it completely.

nikolab, I have read about sage tea and how it acts as an astringent to dry the skin and prevent excessive sweating. I will have to give that a try.

This Is my guess, Your husbands body is acting like a large electrical resistor, dissipating energy in the form of heat, that energy bonds to the hydrogen in his body (water) and is cooling the body, be careful to keep him hydrated the medications them selves could cause him to become more electro conductive. the problem is that energy is not getting to the muscles like it should why? I do not know; however" I am working on it. I hope this helps you understand what is going on, He is like a race horse sweating from the race, the problem is: he has not run. Keep the water going in him.
Normally the energy he is burning off would be being consumed by normal muscle processes and it is not

Thanks for the input. Jellis 86, you do sound very like my husband, you sweat like crazy and then all of a sudden it is over. The analogy to a racehorse by dschaf is' right on the nose' as they say. I personally think it is a combination of the disease and the meds, even if he wasn't sweating like a horse we have to keep water in him to try to help ease the constipation, sometimes I wonder if the sweating isn't taking the water away from the colon?.

Yes it is taking away water from his colon infact all the organs suffer dehydration leads to a snow ball effect. Also I should have mentioned that his meds should be spaced out hopefully. His physician has set up a schedual all at once is a powerfull cocktail. Remember ever drug one takes changes the hole electro chemistry of the body. My guess is that when he is sweating he is extreemly electro positive. It would seem that all of the lords creation always wants to be at equilibrium, ballance. We as observers tend to recognize only the actions and reactions taking place as it seeks that state and fail to recognize or rea,lio what caused the change. Commonly known as a researchers nightmare getting entage led in, a trench of reactions and missing the causes . Oh and just a hunch but if your near the ocean let him soak his feet in it nothing could be better not only is it cooling but its a good ground potential when living on sand.couldn't hurt

Sweating is a problem for me, also. I sweat with very little exertion. However, the most aggravating thing for me is waking up at night with my pillow soaked with sweat. I certainly will try tea of sage. thanks for the tip. Also, I will stay away from decaf coffee as a test run.

I tried tea of sage for this same sweating problem which seems to worsen when relative humidity is high where I live and it actually worked for me.

I was finding I was sweating and I realized it was actually a withdrawal symptom from the muscle relaxant. Since many of us take our meds before we go to bed by the time we are waking up in the morning we may actually be going through drug withdrawal. Now that I'm taking it on a regular schedule, and yes in the middle the night, the sweats it stopped.
Don't know if this is the same for everybody but I thought I'd mention it. Since many of us are taking muscle relaxants and morphine, it might apply to others.
