cord blood

Definition: 
Cord blood is the blood remaining in the placenta and the umbilical cord after a women gives birth. Unlike regular blood circulating in bodies, cord blood contains stem cells, including blood-forming hematopoietic cells. Cord blood is useful in treating genetic disorders and other illness in which stem cell transplants are used.
