Powerchair

Definition:
Powerchairs are wheelchairs that are propelled by means of an electric wheelchair motor rather than manual power such as arms and hands. These motorized wheelchairs allow greater freedom and mobility to those that require their use. Powerchairs, also known as electric-powered wheelchairs, are useful for individuals unable to power a manual wheelchair using their muscles. They're also helpful for people who may need to use a wheelchair for longer distances, or over terrain which would be too fatiguing in a manual wheelchair. Powerchairs are used by people with 'traditional' mobility impairments, and also by people with cardiovascular and fatigue based conditions such as ALS.
