An electric wheelchair, also known as a powerchair, or electric-powered wheelchair (EPW) is a wheelchair that is propelled by electric power instead of muscle power. Electric wheelchairs are helpful to those individuals that are unable to power a manual wheelchair using their own power or muscles. Electric wheelchairs, also known as motorized wheelchair, are also for those who may need to use a wheelchair for longer distances, or over terrain which would be too fatiguing in a manual wheelchair. Electric-based wheelchairs are used by people with mobility impairments, and also by people with cardiovascular and fatigue conditions.
