collar

Definition:

Collar is used by people with muscle trouble, motor neuron degeneration, and other related symptoms or illnesses, such as ALS, often require a collar, neck-brace, or other apparatus to assist in keeping their head up. This may be required temporarily or daily as neck muscles become tired. Finding a satisfactory collar is often difficult. Persons with ALS often find wearing a collar to be very claustrophobic in feeling, and can be associated with difficulty in breathing if it is not properly fit or is poorly designed. A variety of neck collars are available, including a headmaster collar, an aspen collar, foam collars, and custom collars.
