I had a peg placed two years ago. Bolus feeding. No problems until a few months ago.The hole started bleeding and sporadic pain. Cream helping. Doctor suggested Mic-Key Button. I am not sure.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know someone who has the mic-key button. He was showing it at the ALS support group meeting in Bellingham. He was soooo happy with it, and everyone was impressed. When the time comes, I too want the Mic-Key. My GP researched it for me, and he said, "You've got to have it!" Said if the referring surgeon won't put it in, he'll find a surgeon who will! Go for it!

Tim has a MicKey, and it is fantastic! It is far less likely to plug up, and it is very easy to work with. Our specialist arranged for a radiologist to put it in, and it took literally minutes, using the same track as his peg tube.

It is much more user friendly because it stays mostly flush with the body. There is no tubing hanging out or flopping about. Nothing to grab on a shirt or hit anything. It is much easier to deal with. steve had both but much prefers the mic key.

Just came across this post and found it interesting. Can a PAL have their existing tube easily replaced with a Mic-Key? My dad the PEG inserted when he was diagnosed six months ago but has never needed it. I know it gets in the way and they constantly have to flush/clean it. Just looked at the Mic-Key and it seems so much better I can't figure out why they wouldn't insert that to begin with.

Often they start with a regular peg and when it needs to be switched out they will give you a button. You still have to flush it and therr is still some leakage.

From what I've seen the standard procedure is to initially put the one with long tubes in and replace it with the mic-key one after 6 weeks or so, once it's healed.

Yup that is exactly what my husband did. They have to wait for the tract to heal, and then it can easily be switched over to a MicKey.

Think of it like an ear piercing.

They used sleepers when I was a child and now use piercing studs.
You look after the ear for a while and the initial piercing heals, but the hole of course is kept open by the stud.

Then after a while, you can start putting any earrings in.

Not that we want to keep changing fashion buttons every day, but same principle.

The first dangly tube is like the piercing stud. You can keep it in there if you like it even.

Then after the stoma heals, usually around 6 weeks, then you can have a button put in the most common being the mic key or the bard.

Thanks Tillie! I just inquired with the clinic.
