When swallowing becomes very difficult or impossible, even with a PEG, is the end near? My Mom is still swallowing on her own, some things are easier than others, but I want to know what to expect...... I know everyone is different, just asking.....
Thanks,
Patty

Not necessarily. With the PEG, she can receive all the nutrition she needs down the tube. Breathing is usually the determining factor of whether the end is near or not, and whether your PALS accepts or declines mechanical ventilation.
