So here is the background...

November 2008 - Basically my entire body went numb (tingling). Half of my face, neck, shoulders, back, legs etc... Went to the doctor & he did a basic "can you feel sharp/dull test..." Which I could feel the difference... My neck & back were super tense. I was sent to the chiropracter to see if that would take away the pain... It seemed to go away after 3/4 weeks - my doctor mentioned MS but since the symptoms went away neither myself or the doctor pursued anything else.

December 2009 - Breathing problems - went to specialist & he could not figure out why. He said it just appears sometimes in people for no reason. Ok so I have an inhaler - but it is not excerise induced or an outward allergent either... This has been coming & going ever since.

December 2010 - Numbness/tingling came back intermittently. Sometimes on my face, neck/back or arms. Also what I can describe as pins/needles sensation (burning almost) in my arms when I would move my arm, pick up things & at rest. Also sudden extreme weakness in my hands/fingers & arms.
Muscle spasms in arms/legs. This has happened very randomly over the past 3 years.
Yesterday I had a complete melt down...
I lost the dexterity in my fingers - could barely give the cashier change
Arms were extremely weak with pain - I also tried to lift my hands over my head and they felt heavy. Then it became hard to walk. My legs felt heavy like someone had tied weights to them or trying to walk through mug. Today they feel less heavy & more in pain cramping & stabbing pain. I still have weakness in my hands arms - can not pick up anything heavy.
My neck & shoulders are in pain! Like I have huge knots in there squeezing me. This varies in degree from around a "2" pain level to debilitating.
Also for the past 4 days I have been getting a choking feeling. At first it felt like something was in the back of my throat. Chewing sets it off now were I feel like someone is choking me. It does not affect my breathing but eating is more difficult.
For the last month I have been tired all the time whether or not I have had enough sleep.
My balance is horrible (I have noticed this over the last 6 months)
I will also get dizzy/light leaded upon getting up - the feeling of almost passing out...
This happened
In the last 6 months I have seen white "spots" in my vision This lasts for 10-20 seconds. (3-4 times)
I noticed over the past few weeks sensitivity to extreme heat in my feet & legs. I went in a hot tub and afterwards my legs felt like they were extremely overheated/kinda weak... This also happened after I took a hot bath.
Also being super emotional...Crying over things I would not normally...

I am scared because all of these last symptoms have shown up within a 3-4 week period & over half in the last 2 - It is as if my body's heath nose dived. I have had mild symptoms that have come & gone for the past 3-4 years.
I know that ALS & MS have similiar symptoms... I am going to see my doctor once he is back in town...
My first reaction was MS because I had almost every symptom but the throat & muscle pain/weakness has me thinking it might be ALS.

Any thoughts? I am scared I might have MS but terrified I might have ALS...
:(

Crystal , it sounds nothing like ALS, but you need a neurological consultation to rule out MS.

I'm still re cooperating from our weekend fallout of scared, debating newbies, so forgive me for not being more informative with my response, but this is not a story of ALS, it just isnt.

I'm sure someone else will be along soon who may have a little more mental energy to spare so be patient.

Alyoop I think this ones for you babe.

Take Care and try to relax a little, you are ok.

No one will be able to give you a diagnosis here but I can tell you that MS would come to my mind if you mentioned all of this in a consultation. ALS doesnt come and go and none of the recent symptoms have anything to do with ALS. They are more suspect for MS with all the sensory and ocular issues. Def set up something with your neuro to get an MRI its painless. Just remember we cannot diagnose you here but our experience with ALS is valuable to say that this sounds nothing like ALS...please consider staying off the internet until you are able to see your healthcare provider..dont get caught up. Happy New Year!
