Does anyone experience pain while swallowing? Lately, I have been experiencing pain when I swallow food behind my sternum and it lingers awhile. It doesn't feel anything like heartburn. Have any of you experienced this when you started having swallowing difficulties. I don't have any difficulty moving food or liquids down. It is just a burning sensation when I swallow solids. Anyone else have this? Thanks.

Michelle, I never have had any pain at all associated with eating (well except for that pancake eating contest in high school :shock:). It just became harder to swallow, not more painful.

No pain... you probably could get answers from a gastroenterologist.

Michelle,
GERD(reflux), hiatal hernia, or erosive esophagitis potentially can cause pain on swallowing without actual heartburn. Time to see GI specialist, mean time exclude acidic foods(coffee, OJ, mints...) and a trial of OTC Gaviscon, or Gelusil might be helpful. Erica

I'm starting to realize that Barry is up there with GlenBrittle as funniest guy on the boards. :)
