  • Hello again YDF,

I guess it would just be another thyroid blood test. You said your thyroid looked sufficiently abnormal enough to warrant a biopsy. Wouldn't that translate to the numbers being off enough to warrant simple medication?

Biopsies are potentially dangerous and may not show what they are looking for, especially in the cases of the liver and prostate. I personally don't like the idea of getting randomly core drilled on, in any organ. That's my point. Why have that much more invasive procedure done first, when the script trial is so much easier and has no side effects?

If this doesn't help you in a couple of weeks, then maybe the biopsy is the next step. But I certainly wouldn't just go and do it without trying the pills first. They straightened me right out, I do know that much.

    Just sayin'

    Hello YDF,

O.K., that sounds very good. Except the part about having a biopsy done. DO NOT do that!!!! It is sssooooooo not necessary!!!!!!! All you need is a simple blood test, that's it. They will see that your levels are off and prescribe a simple script.

I started with Synthroid, but am now taking the generic of that which is Levothyroxine 200mg., once a day. I think they cost me about $10 for 90 pills, a three month supply. It doesn't get any better than that!

Please, at least try this BEFORE you let them do a biopsy.

    Hang tough,

Hi YDF, (I won't even ask what's that's all about)

I just wanted to re-emphasize Ottawagirl's advice about possible thyroid problems. I had this problem a few years ago, and let me tell you......it can mess up your world! But it is so easily fixed! A very cheap prescription, and two weeks later, presto, I was back to normal!

The thyroid controls all of the bodies metabolisms, so I couldn't even think straight when I was having this problem. I was swollen, had trouble getting around, and my voice was quite slow and hoarse. My regular Dr. totally missed it, and thought I had a liver condition. After walking out on the liver biopsy they wanted to do on me, I went for a second opinion, and this second Dr. diagnosed me in five minutes!

I know you said your numbers were good, but it sounds so much like thyroid problems to me. Get another simple blood test and another opinion......PLEASE! Good Luck. It just doesn't sound like als!

    Hang tough,
    Steve
