fever shot up to 102 last night, was 101 this morning, hard not to think the worst, very short of breath, could it be just a bug?

Fever usually means you have an infection. Not something to ignore. Go see your GP tomorrow.

Yes, could just be a bug. Keeping fingers crossed that is what it is. But as others have said--you need to see your doc!

My husband has had 2 bugs in 5 months, both with fevers of 102-103 (after Tylenol to keep it down). We were so afraid of pneumonia with the coughing and shortness of breath, but it wasn't either time. They just ran their course. I'm relaying this to encourage you that, while with ALS fevers are very scary, they can be just a simple bug.

Hope yours is not more serious than that. Please see your doc & keep us posted.

Cindy

Janie, you take good care and please let us know how you get on at the doctors.
God bless, Janelle x

Fever broke yesterday, no fever today, feeling hungry, I think I'm OK, if it comes back I'll go straight to the doc, thanks everybody. My neurologist said he was going to check on Mede for my bowel obstruction, been a month, haven't heard a word, good thing I'm Ok, I would be dead waiting on him, mirlax every day is working.

Incredibly good to hear your fever is gone!

Doc's delay is unacceptable. Can you get a nurse care coordinator or nurse advocate to do the follow up and ensure you get what you need? We now have two permanently assigned to us (one with the medical facility and one with our insurance company). Husband's 1st ALS specialist doesn't seem happy with us, but we aren't with him either and he's the reason we had to get one. 2nd neuro working with him is great with it--but then again, we never have to follow up with her anyway!

Please pursue getting one (or have someone who's offered help pursue it). You never know when you may need urgent follow-up care, and if this doc is unwilling or unable to get on the ball, it's a good idea to have someone in place who will light a fire under him. JMHO.

You deserve good care!

Thank you, I have long term care, they may help, I have clinic this month too, I can't talk but my son is a real strong advocate .
