Hello all.
My husband has recently started to demand a lot of water. He is in the end stages of ALS. They don't think he has diabetes as he doesn't have any other symptoms and although he has some cognitive decline he doesn't have FTD. I wondered if anyone else has experienced this and what the cause might be? He has a doctor appointment next week and I will be asking about it then of course.
Thanks, Amanda.

If he's using oxygen or pressurized air, it might be drying him out.

If he's in end stages, his kidneys might not be working well, requiring more water.

Regardless the cause, give him whatever makes him comfortable.

Chris didn't need more water, but as Mike says, I would just give extra fluids. It's all about comfort now really.

FTD is fronto-temporal degeneration and is often confused with someone having a raging condition. If there are cognitive changes it is probably some degeneration though it could also simply be a CO2 buildup. Doesn't even matter, IIWII and if you just tend to his needs, that is all that matters now.

Keep us updated, you are doing such a great job. hugs
