Electric-powered wheelchair

Acronym:
EPW
Definition:
Electric-powered wheelchairs (EPW), are powerchairs that are powered by means of electricity (usually battery-powered), versus the traditional muscle, or human-powered methods. Electric-powered wheelchairs are useful for people who cannot power a manual wheelchair using their own strength or energy, so instead, use a motorized wheelchair to assist in travel. Electric power-based wheelchairs are used by people with cardiovascular and fatigue based conditions, and for those with more traditional mobility impairments, such as ALS. Electric wheelchairs are also helpful to those who may need to use a wheelchair over terrain which would be too fatiguing, or for longer distances in which a manually powered wheelchair would be too intense or exhausting.
