I am a twenty five year old male, I just registered on this forum because I am very scared of ALS. I have had chronic health worrying issues in the past, but I am having great difficulty ignoring my symptoms.

It started after I developed some sickness, went to the doctor with all sorts of fears. He told me I had a minor infection. Eventually the symptoms slowly got better but I continued to have persistent sleep difficulties, which lasted around three weeks.

Finally, around ten days ago I was able to get a more decent nights sleep than usual, around 6 hours of sleep rather than 2. When I woke up, my right arm felt a little unusual. Unusual pains, and strange feelings underneath the skin that are very hard to describe. Later on that day, the upper part of my right leg began to bother me as well.

As the days went by, my right arm began to feel slightly weak. Eventually my right leg began to feel a little weak too. After around five days it spread, affecting my left arm with weakness, some strange sensations in the left hands' joints, sometimes burning sensations, and some slight weakness.

it has now been ten days and my left and right arms still feel a little strange, with random muscle pains, and some small weakness especially in the upper muscles, and my right leg feels stiff above the knee when I walk. My left leg also appears to be starting to be affected, with some minute pain and fasciculation. I'm having a little bit of difficulty performing every day tasks, especially when the joints in my left hand were bothering me.

I know it sounds crazy, but I'm terrified that I have ALS! Could ALS really affect all my limbs this quickly? Has it ever been documented to where ALS spread to multiple limbs in less than a week and caused these symptoms? How common is ALS at the age of 25? I know that it mostly strikes between 40-70, but I know people have gotten it in their twenties as well!

I'm very scared because I don't know whether the anxiety and stress I was under and insomnia could cause my nervous system and muscles to be affected like this, and spread after ten days! Could ALS spread like this? Thank you to all who may be able to help.

similar

I have similar symptoms but mine overall progressed for 7 months with some symptoms showing slight improvement. I will try to keep you updated on what becomes of me, with hopes that it can help point you in the right direction.

The speed of your symtpoms however are too quick in my book for als, however the more knowledgeable folks will chime in and give you a better idea.

sounds like guillan barre

so it's impossible for it to be ALS? i'm scared to death, with these symptoms in my arm and leg.

als

Its very hard for a Dr. to diagnose someone from the internet, would be much harder for one of us. We can only guess based off of what you tell us and we don't examine numerous patients daily. From you description it doesn't sound right but again ALS seems to take on many faces. Regardless get to a Dr., if you are really scared then go to an als specialist, get the ncv/emg test done and see what he/she has to say.

Sounds more like some kind of a virus but a trip to a neuro wouldn't hurt.
