I’ve had a problem with my Amazon account. I’ve tried all their
maze of online supposed solutions. Nope. So, I had to climb their
telephone tree to finally speak to an Amazon customer rep.
A human being. Told her the problem.

She said, “Oh… I can solve that problem.” As I was explaining
the situation in the background her dog was barking, kids were
talking loud, twice apparently she had me on mute, she had me
try a few things right out of the maze of the supposed online
solutions. Apparently she did not have the capability for remote
access. I asked if I could be elevated to someone who could.
Nope. She told me to clear my computer of all history, cookies
and passwords. Ain’t no way I’m doing that. I could tell she was
distracted WORKING FROM HOME.

To hell with Amazon. I don’t order that much and my son in law
has an account… I’ll let him order what I want.

No wonder companies are considering salary reductions for those
who are now working from home. Now they don't have to pay
for child care. Her kids sure were home.

Now... I can imagine all the barbed hoops to close the account.

why would you not be willing to try the standard first line of clearing your history and cookies?
it often fixes many issues with online accounts

you don't even need to close your account, just don't shop there if you are unhappy with them 😊

He probably has Amazon Prime which costs money.

Al, I've had good luck with their customer support. Maybe you should give it one more shot and call them again.

Maybe try accessing with a different browser.

Tillie, it's password problem. With out telling me they switched my Email address
from my .Net Email to Gmail. I do not use Gmail. Their junk/spam filter is about
as porous as a chain link fence. My .Net provider has an excellent spam/junk
filter and block.

Here's one... I can only receive Email from the United States and I added Australia
for friends I have there. No China, Russia, Ukraine, South America and etc.

What other provider has that? I get very very little spam/phishing/junk
in my inbox. Rarely one may sneak through. I can add who I want mail from...
if I've ordered from say like Lowe's so it doesn't get blocked. I love the
control it gives me.

I have never used my Gmail account nor would I even consider sending any
personal info over Gmail.

All I use is my .Net Email address. But Amazon seemingly can't change it back.
That's why I want to close the account.

What they really want to supposedly fix the problem is my Iphone number.
Nope.

Maybe when I try to close the account they may ask why? See where that goes.

PS Tillie she also suggested I clear History, Cookies AND Passwords.
You gotta be kidding.... Passwords? ?????

I am sorry you are having such problems with Amazon.

I buy a lot on Amazon because it is much easier than going to a store.

I have had the same email address (ending in .net) for my amazon account for over 20 years. While I have a gmail account, it is virtually unused. Amazon has not forced me to switch to a gmail account.

How do you know Amazon changed your email address? I ask this because of my familiarity with computer security. A very common attack is to pretend to be a well known vendor (such as amazon) and send you an email telling you that you need to change your password. Are you confident that you are actually talking to amazon?

When I call Amazon customer support (which I have done many times), I am always connected to a human with very short wait times (usually just a few seconds). Your interaction sounds different enough that I would be concerned about the potential for a phishing attack.

Thanks Steve. I'm sure I was on the Amazon web site.

I am going to try again tomorrow. Every time I went to enter my .Net
address a window dropped below showing my Gmail address, then
it denied my name window, entered it again and it accepted it, then
wouldn't accept my password. Thirty minutes of trying everything
back and forth before calling. I've had my .Net address since 2003.
Have you called them during this Covid 19 thing?

I've since read this has happened to others and it was resolved over
the phone.... didn't happen for me. :)

Gonna try another phone call tomorrow.

I have had numerous conversations with Amazon support over the last several months. All of those conversations have been about packages that did not show up or items that needed to be returned. I have not called Amazon for technical support this year.

Good luck getting your problem resolved.

Perhaps they have a mechanism whereby you can reset your password at Amazon for your .net account. I have used that capability on other websites to get past troubling issues.

Same thought as Steve - find out how to reset your password, that might do the trick.
Sorry you have had such a drama Al.

I think I must be missing something but if you have access to the currently listed email ( even if you don’t like it) can you not just click forgot my password? Then when they email you the reset sign in , go to your account and do whatever you want which if you are leaving amazon should include canceling any subscriptions and removing any stored credit cards

Nikki, I did the "forgot password" thing... never got a reply with a reset code
at either address. Gave it today... not yet so far.

It's no crisis.... so I decided to leave it till Monday. I'll sit at my roll top desk,
make something to drink, take a Zanax, click my office chair to the recline
position, key board next to me, set my desk phone on speaker with clip board
and pencil on my lap. :)

Your email provider or email client may be blocking some messages they detect as spam. Be sure to check your spam folder (I have to do this both for my email client and for my ISP).

It is amazing what my ISP blocks. Most of the time that is a good thing, but occasional they block messages I need to see.

Hey Steve, yea I've done that a couple times today to be sure... probably again
tonight. I'm sure only a phone call will resolve it. Hopefully.

You could try doing the 'forgot my password' thing again, if you don't get the email fairly quickly then you are unlikely to get it (say at least within the hour, usually within 10 minutes).

Hey Tillie, I tried that a few times. Just a hunch.... there is a guy in Florida -
New York that has my same first name, same middle initial and last name.
All spelled the same. I have a somewhat unique first and last name.

It's a glitch on their part or I've been hacked. I went through that a few
years ago with my credit card. All charges cleared but it was a hassle
to get it straightened out. Temporary card, new password for that, new
card a week later, new password for that. Had to redo all the online
order sites.

Just part of it if it happens. And... today it can happen to
anyone regardless to card security with doing finance and purchasing
off a cell phone. Wasn't it the Cloud that recently got hacked and
some other big internet operation?

But.... it all started when Amazon switched my Email address to Gmail
for some reason. I think they are in cahoots with Google. :)

We'll see how it goes Monday....

PS. Going to call Monday during business hours hoping to get someone
without a heavy foreign accent. I understand a little Italian and I love
Aussie and British accents but these old ears struggle with some others. :)
