Does any one know what manufacturer makes the hand holder like the one in this picture of Steve Gleason? I have tried searching in this forum and on the internet. It should not be this hard to find, maybe I am not calling it the right name. I have tried foam molded armrest and hand holder.

Thanks,
Patrick

Thanks Nikki. I gave it a try and got more hits as you noted but I am coming up empty for the hand molds. Any ideas?

I found a tweet from Steve where he answered that question. The manufacturer is Otto-Bock.

Permobil makes the arm trough and hand supports. I could not find a picture of them on their website. Matt

Permobil does not make those. Various manufacturers such as Otto Bock sell them (and many other attachments) to Permobil and other wheelchair mfrs for installation on new chairs.

If you like that one, your DME can order and install it for you if it's compatible with your chair.

But you should be re-evaluated for arm support first, to ensure that the options for installation depth and angle will meet your needs, and what flavor of that particular product (there are multiple versions) if any will work best.

All arm rests can create pressure points and pain, and the wrong setup can increase the risk of shoulder subluxation. Depending on the setup, PALS may also need a comfort position that has hands not resting on the arm rests.

I apologize for any misinformation. Permobil may not make them but they are available for their wheelchairs, at least the ones with the Corpus 3G seating system. When I first got my wheelchair about 2 years ago, I had the arm trough/hand rest on the left side and standard armrest on the right. The joystick also on the right. Along the way, we switched out the standard armrest for the trough on the right side and then eventually added the hand rest to the right side when the joystick was removed and I switched to head array control. We have a great seating specialist from where we ordered the wheelchair that makes the arm adjustments.

Yes, your DME can order the Otto Bock for your Permobil.
