Hello everyone,
My mom cannot eat purée food anymore. I was wondering is there anything we can put on her tongue that tastes good but dissolves without causing her to choke? She still says no to the peg tube and takes very small amounts of liquid now. She has a desire to taste but just can't.
Thank you so much.

If she can swallow a little bit, perhaps you could freeze liquids like Carnation Instant Breakfast or various smoothies and put a small amount on her tongue, as long as she can swallow it as it melts.

It differs by the person, but if you haven't tried:

Ice cream / sherbet / popsicle (as bits or on stick) / frozen yogurt

Syrup drops (fruit, maple, chocolate)

Completely smooth soups and broths

Fruit/veg juice blends (V8 fusion)

Raw-to just curdled eggs

There are fast-melt vitamins (VitaMelt) that will melt in her mouth (fruit-flavored) if she can hold them there.

I am not thinking particularly about nutrition or hygiene as I am presuming you are not. Thank you for walking this path with your mom.

Thank you both so much for your replies. I will discuss this with my dad and see if we can try some out. She was eating soft boiled eggs until a month ago and now only on liquids. Then when drinking less than half actually gets in so my mom has lost a lot more weight.
Thank you.
