I am 46 years old and on Feb. 14th I had a EMG, which led my Dr. to lean towards ALS. He has put me on the R drug. He said I have a MND. I have since a spinal which was was inconclusive. I have had a MRI, a pulmunary base line, and swallow test. I have another EMG on 4/12 I currently have weakness in both legs and arms with tremors in my legs and constant twitches in my arms, and cramps in my legs. With in the last two weeks I have noticed some trouble breathing, just having trouble catching my breathe and at times my breathing is labored.

Since I can walk and dress myself, I guess I really do not think I have ALS, however, something is happening, sometimes I think I am crazy and I must be making these things up. Well now that I rambled I guess my question is what next ? What can expect about progression

Thanks,

Billy

I hope you are right and it is not als. I myself have had an emg but lucky for me the doctor thinks no als or mnd. I also hope and pray it is all in my head. My speach slurs and my hands twitch and spasm. I have some blurry vision so i hope it it might be ms which can cause some same symptoms. I will keep you in my thoughts and prays. I cannot honestly tell you what is next as als is a disease no one can tell what is next. I reallty pray that they will find a cure or at least find a drug that will prolong life longer then what is out there now

Billy -

Have you gotten a second opinion from an ALS specialist? If not, I would make that your top priority.

As for your breathing problems - it might be anxiety. I wouldn't minimize this, but I wouldn't panic just yet either. (Well actually I might panic, in fact, I did and it caused me breathing problems. :-? ) The point is that panic and anxiety, without a doubt, makes everything worse, and it might not be necessary. Are you getting any sleep? If you're anxiety becomes very difficult to manage, you would not be out of line to ask your doctor for some medication to help you with this.

Good luck with your next EMG.
